Barbara, 11, performed on Maphis’ Las Vegas country music show in 1960, and Joe helped her land a regular spot on “Town Hall Party.” Mandrell played steel guitar for Little Jimmy Dickens, Red Foley, and Tex Ritter in 1962.

When Barbara was 14, she played steel guitar in the Mandrell Family Band with her father and mother. Barbara played bass guitar and banjo in a band that played at U.S. military bases. In 1967, she graduated from high school.
